Dr. Kathryn Dong
Kathryn Dong MD, MSc, FRCP, DRCPSC (Addiction Medicine) is the AHS Chair in Emergency Medicine Research, an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and an Associate Scientific Director with the Inner City Health and Wellness Program. She completed her emergency medicine training at the University of Alberta in 2004 and went on to complete a Masters in Population Health. After her early research demonstrated that care in the emergency department (ED) could be improved for people who use substances, she led the development of the Inner City Health and Wellness Program and obtained additional certification in addiction medicine. Between 2013-2022 she implemented, and was the medical lead for, the Addiction Recovery and Community Health (ARCH) team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital - an inpatient and ED-based addiction medicine consult service. Her academic interests are focused on improving access to evidence-informed substance use disorder treatment in EDs and hospital settings, and social accountability.
