About ICHWP
Our research program is dedicated to improving health and social outcomes for structurally vulnerable populations, including people who use substances and those experiencing unstable housing or homelessness
A collaboration between the University of Alberta and other partners, ICHWP is housed at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Canada. We have deliberately co-located researchers, educators, and clinicians to ensure that our activities are both integrated and meaningful. We regularly engage with community partners in order to respond appropriately and efficiently to community needs.
Our focus
Engagement
A community-based participatory approach is foundational to ICHWP scholarship. Our work emphasizes grassroots involvement, creating change with collective, local action and ground up decision making.
Partnerships
Our clinical partnerships help us bring evidence-informed substance use care, health promotion, and social stabilization to people who use substances in community and hospital settings.
Projects
Through strong connections to both community members and care providers, we conduct pragmatic, relevant research on inner city health services and substance use.
Knowledge Translation
We engage in a number of teaching and quality improvement activities to equip current and future professionals with the tools to effectively respond to community-identified needs.
