Holly Mathias
Holly Mathias, MA, is a PhD student and Vanier Scholar in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. Holly holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Global Development Studies and English Literature from Queen’s University (2016), and a Master of Arts in Health Promotion and Certificate of University Teaching and Learning from Dalhousie University (2018). Before relocating to Edmonton in 2021, Holly lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she was a research coordinator and sessional instructor in the School of Health and Human Performance at Dalhousie University. Holly’s proposed doctoral research will examine unpaid support for people who use drugs in rural Canada through a gender lens. Her research is driven by her desire to improve and sustain equitable access to mental health and substances use services and supports in rural and remote areas of Canada. In her spare time, Holly enjoys staying active, trying new foods, traveling, and volunteering within her local community.
